This week’s topic is Rebuilding, in light of the aftermath of the recent LA Fires.
Living nearby the destruction of the Eaton Fire is a daily reminder of what too many unfortunate homeowners are currently enduring. As we walked the destruction this weekend, we thought about how hopeless many victims are feeling. We’ve met several fire refugees over the last few weeks, many still in shock, but some already making strides toward rebuilding.
Wanting to provide something helpful for managing what is the ultimate challenge of any homeowner — losing one’s home and dealing with the immediate aftermath — we curated a comprehensive “rebuilding” guide in our latest article 10 Challenges in the Aftermath of the LA Fires.
Our guide is less about literally rebuilding one’s home and more about making sense of truly traumatic circumstances. The topics covered and information provided illustrate the many important options and decisions that will need to be considered and made.
The additional articles in the newsletter pertain to issues that many homeowner victims of the LA Fires are encountering as they begin their long journeys of restoring their once peaceful homes, e.g.:
Building or installing an ADU first, to use as “temporary” housing during their rebuilds
The importance of having blueprints or as-built drawings for faster “like for like” rebuilds
Needing to discover cost-cutting measures if one’s insurance coverage is insufficient
Choosing features and materials to make their homes better than before
