Summer: A Living Laboratory for Your Home

July 27, 2025

Hi Reader,

Summer is here — but you couldn't tell in Southern California, where the weather is still spring-like and perfect (but not for long). Now is an opportune time to pay attention to what your home might be telling you, during the harshest season for outdoor furniture, indoor air quality, home exteriors and landscaping.

Each morning, we unplug our AeroBroom from its charger and perform a light air blow of debris that may have kicked up overnight. This daily task is important twofold:

1. It prepares our outdoor seating areas for any unannounced visitors, and
2. It allows us to check our property for any potential maintenance issues before they become expensive repairs

You might think daily checks are a bit obsessive, but in truth, we inspect our property for disruptive critter visits, unusual activity around plants and trees, sudden changes and other potential hazards.

Spending time observing and listening to what your home, and its surroundings, are communicating to you is crucial to being a preventative and responsible homeowner — especially during the hottest months of the year!

According to a 2024 survey conducted by Hippo Insurance:

• Many homeowners take a proactive approach to home maintenance
• Nearly half of responding homeowners (48%) said they prioritize seasonal maintenance tasks during the summer
• More than half (53%) stated that they already perform regular maintenance to prepare specifically for severe weather-related damage

Being a proactive student about your home will help you stay abreast of changes, where early detection can save you significant amounts of money and heartache.

There are few better ways to becoming a capable homeowner than helping your home effectively handle what Nature can unforgivably dish out!
