Hi Reader,
In the quest to protect our homes and gardens from unwanted pests, it’s tempting to reach for quick chemical fixes, without realizing the intricate, long-term damage they can cause. Traditional pesticides and herbicides may be effective in the short term, but the consequences can be devastating—to our health, local ecosystems and the very soil that sustains us.
In this week’s newsletter, we explore practical, non-toxic pest control strategies—using RESCUE! as a profile in innovation. Regardless of your interest in safe, natural methods for mitigating household pests, RESCUE! is an inspiring story for all types of innovators and disruptors, who envision better ways of doing things years, sometimes decades, before others.
Rod Schneidmiller—Founder and President of RESCUE!—saw the future for safe, natural, and targeted pest control way back in 1982, but had to overcome skepticism, when first introducing his non-toxic insect traps. The common response from retailers was:
why would anyone want to trap insects instead of just spraying them?
Schneidmiller’s dogged persistence and staunch belief in safer, more-effective pest control methods ultimately won over the market—especially when homeowners got wind of his smarter approach.
All these years later, the shift away from harmful, indiscriminate chemical treatments is still happening.
According to recent market research, the global demand for eco-friendly pest control is growing rapidly, with the natural pest control market projected to reach over $8 billion by 2030, up from $3.5 billion in 2020. In the U.S. alone, nearly 60% of homeowners now say they prefer green alternatives over traditional chemical treatments.
This trend reflects a growing awareness of the risks associated with synthetic pesticides—e.g. Roundup—and a commitment to safer, more sustainable living—e.g. Homesteading. As more families make the switch, they're not only protecting their health, but also helping to restore a more resilient balance between people and nature.
A healthy home starts with healthy choices—and healthy choices start with awareness!
