Hi Reader,
Sustainable materials and practices for the home is the focus of this week’s newsletter.
On the materials front, we explore several interesting topics, from beautiful reclaimed wood flooring to the amazing capabilities of cork to emerging uses of coconut coir. When choosing any material, it’s imperative to balance aesthetics with performance and maintenance over time.
Two things we especially love about sustainable materials is their durability and ease-of-maintenance. Of late, the most innovative manufacturers of sustainable products are also excelling on the aesthetics front.
On the practices front, we’ve found it beneficial to take a “waste not, want not” approach to operating our home. Energy efficiency, for example, goes hand-in-hand with sustainability, with the added benefits of increased comfort and cost-savings.
Making things last by learning how to repair and restore elements of your home is another key tenant of maintaining a sustainable household.
Be sure to see our recent newsletter that explored Sustainable Landscaping, as well.
