Hi Reader,
Having recently attended the 2025 National Hardware Show (NHS) in Las Vegas, we present our favorite products from the show in this week's newsletter.
NHS is one of our most enjoyable industry shows for Purgula, as we are free to discover a wide range of innovative products uniquely designed for the home, as well as the imaginative, daring inventors behind them.
What is different about this tradeshow is that there is a heightened focus on the latest needs of end-customers, with a primary focus on homeowners.
Everyone in attendance (exhibitors, retail buyers, marketers, service providers) has a vested interest in understanding current trends and the needs of end-customers, who ultimately aim to improve their home lives.
Unlike other highly regarded tradeshows — such as IBS and KBIS, which focus on home construction and major kitchen & bath remodeling, respectively — exhibitors at NHS can adapt to changes in the home market much faster. Based on immediate feedback and short product cycles, manufacturers can introduce standalone products that can immediately impact the lives of their customers — without needing industry-wide adoption from interconnected networks of trade professionals.
Here are a few "styles" of innovation we encountered at the show:
- Professional Experience (“Mother of Necessity”)
- Homage (“Fulfilling the Vision of Another”)
- Product Extensions (“Learning How Customers Really Use Their Products”)
Other, more common, sources of innovation we observed were driven by improving one or more of the following benefits:
- Convenience
- Performance
- Safety
That said, NHS is an annual reminder that there may indeed be a better "mouse trap" in the market — a better solution that can solve a nagging problem in your home, and the homes of many others.
As you go about your busy life, keep in mind that there are inventors and ingenious product developers toiling away to make products that will positively impact the lives of their customers.
With that reminder, we include a collection of articles that share a wide range of innovative products from other recent tradeshows, plus a look back at our favorite products from NHS 2024.
