Design & Construction Week 2026
March 1, 2026
Hi Reader,
In the first quarter of each new year, the residential design and construction world gathers to see what’s next—and this year’s conversations felt different.
At Design & Construction Week 2026 (DCW), the message was unmistakable:
the future of homebuilding is no longer about choosing between performance and beauty. The two are now inseparable.
Across the expansive floors of the International Builders’ Show (IBS) and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), manufacturers unveiled products that go beyond code compliance and trend forecasting.
What stood out wasn’t just innovation for innovation’s sake.
From building envelope advancements and resilient material systems to intuitive hardware, adaptable layouts, and seamlessly integrated smart technologies:
this year’s introductions reflect a deeper understanding of how people truly want to live.
Accessibility and universal design are no longer niche considerations; they are shaping mainstream aesthetics, while playing key roles in home wellness and safety. Resiliency is redefining material science. And intelligent home systems are quietly weaving adaptability into everyday life.
Together, the standout products at DCW 2026 tell a cohesive story of homes designed not just to impress—but to endure, include, and evolve—in short, making forever home’s possible via future proofing.
This week, Purgula presents The Best of the Best at DCW 2026—a curated look at the products and brands that aren’t just responding to change, but actively shaping the next chapter of residential design and construction.

Deako Smart Switch (Gen 2)
Effortless Smart Lighting, Beautifully Integrated
The Deako Smart Switch (Gen 2) perfectly embodies the core message from Design & Construction Week 2026: performance and beauty are now inseparable in home design. Showcased at IBS as a standout in smart home integration, this next-generation switch eliminates the traditional hassles of smart lighting setup with innovative Magic Linking™ technology. The switches automatically discover and configure each other for effortless single-pole, 3-way, or 4-way control, no complex wiring, programming, or extra hubs required.
Its elegant matte white finish and sleek Beacon™ LED light bar serve dual purposes: a subtle glow for easy locating in the dark, or as a customizable ambiance indicator, blending seamlessly into modern aesthetics while enhancing everyday usability. With 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, remote app control, schedules, timers, scenes, and compatibility with Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, and more, it weaves intelligent adaptability into daily life—turning ordinary lighting into a responsive, future-proof system.
Homeowners upgrading existing homes, or building new ones, will love how it simplifies installation and delivers energy savings, enhanced security (remote control when away), and wellness-focused convenience, like automated routines. Mortgages
The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell to 5.98%, the lowest since September 2022. This milestone, down from around 6.76% a year ago, has boosted refinance demand (up significantly in recent weeks) and improved affordability for potential buyers and existing homeowners looking to refinance. This trend is unlocking the buying power of hundreds of thousands to millions more households and signals potential further declines into the spring buying season.
